zygomatic arch: Bony
arch on the lateral part of the cheek formed by projections of the
zygomatic bone and the temporal bone, enclosing the fibers of the
temporalis muscle and for attachment of the masseter muscle.
zygomatic base: Place
where the lower border of the cheek merges with the outer wall of
the palate.
zygomatic bone: The
facial bone that makes up the cheek corner and outer orbital pillar,
and encloses the front part of the temporal fossa.
zygomatic process:
Part of a bone extending toward and meeting the zygomatic bone,
there is a zygomatic process of the frontal, temporal, and maxilla.
zygomatic root: The
rearward base of the zygomatic process of the temporal, as it extends
over the outer ear opening.
zygomaxillary region:
The cheek, comprised of the anterior face of the maxilla and zygomatic
bones.
zygomaxillary ridge:
A low ridge that extends along the suture between the zygomatic
and the maxillary bones.
zygonema: The stage
during meiosis in prophase I at which homologous chromosomes being
to pair in a highly specific way (like a zipper).
zygote: The fertilized
egg that results from the union of two gametes.
