Discovered by MeaveLeakey and her team in 1998 west of Lake Turkana, Kenya, K. platyops was described in 2001 in Natureas a new genus dating back to the middle Pliocene, 3.5 MYA., positioning itself as a possible direct ancestor of modern humans. |
